1994 metro stalling

Hey all, a buddy of mine has a 1994 with stalling problems. Im being told when he gets to 45 mph it dies. when he starts over it will do the same , runs fine til he gets to 45 then dies off , i believe its an automatic. if anyone has any ideas please let me know and thanks in advance.

Fuel pump and catalytic converter are the first two things that come to my mind.

How does it do under hard acceleration from a start? Does the condition change with duration of running time or hot/cold engine?
