please help me!!!!

I just bought a 95 4door escort with the 1.9. first of all i have a shudder that seems to increase with the engine rpms. it's really noticeable when i floor it. could that be caused by a fouled plug or something else? the other problem i have is the passenger side seat belt motor doesn't work. where can i get a new one if i have to replace it. thank you all for your help.

Re: please help me!!!!

Shudder could be a cylinder not firing. Pull the plugs and read them. One not firing will be dirty. Has it ever had new ignition wires? If not, replace them.
The seat belt motor is a dealer item. Very hard to get parts from the dealer if the car is over 10 years old. Best bet is to go to the boneyard, ask them if you can get some parts and do it yourself.

Does the shudder happen when you rev the engine with tranny in neutral?

Re: please help me!!!!

My seat belt motor went out a few years ago. If you look down at the base of the pillar (near where lap belt is mounted) you will see a round plastic cap. Pop the cap off and there's an allen bolt. Turning it will manually move the shoulder belt into the locked position. Once it's there you simply have to pull it over your shoulder when you get in yhe car. Shuddering could be a bad clutch.

Re: please help me!!!!

well i pulled the plugs and replaced them. one of the plug wires was loose. that helped a little. unfortuantely my wife won't let me drive it to see how much it helped. i was wanting to fix the broken motor so that i don't have to deal with the belt all the time. thank you for yalls help. one other problem that i have noticed is that when it shifts from first to second it tends to hit second gear hard. any ideas on what that could be?
