Question 3rd gear grinds, planning long trip soon

in about a month i had planned to make a trip on my 03 350z from texas to california and back again to texas, and well my car has been grinding gears from 2nd to 3rd, but if i go easy on the shifting it doesnt grind, could this be a problem down the road, or can i just go easy on the shifting and hope that my tranny wont go out? is there like a quik fix or something? any feedback, suggestions? would really appreciate it. thanks.

Re: 3rd gear grinds, planning long trip soon

I had the same problem in my 03 g35. I tried to fool myself by babying it into 3rd gear, but I finally took it in with 7K left on the powertrain warranty. The dealer diagnosed it and said the sycros were gone and they had to swap the tranny, at no cost to me. So if they are willing to change the transmission, I'm willing to say that there is no quick fix and no other way around it.
