It's a 2002 grand prix GTP.

I got the car three days ago. When I got the car, there was "low coolant" signal. I did not drive the car a lot within three days, say, about a hundred miles.

Today when I was about to drive on the highway, the car turned off automatically. And after the missfire, I saw the "Service engine soon " as well as "low coolant" on the panel.

I am pretty new to the car. I am going to drive to autozone to check for the code.

Can anybody give me any idea what's going on with my car?

Welcome to AF.

The low coolant indication should not cause the stalling. Without any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) since you have a SES/CEL light we would be speculating. So once it is scanned post the codes.

Also, what other indications, if any, when the engine dies. Any TRAC OFF light? What is the tach doing around the time of the stall?

Check your coolant level directly at the radiator filler neck and in the coolant reservoir tank.

I checked the code today. The code is P0102. I just did not see anything when the engine died.

MAF (mass airflow) sensor. Remove the electrical connector to it and then see what it does. You can drive with the MAF sensor disconnected for testing purposes.

Did you mean that if I disconnect the MAF sensor, the signal would disappear if the problem is MAF sensor?

Right now your PCM module sees a bad MAF signal of less than 1500 Hz so it sets the DTC which is not a low input voltage DTC but low input frequency. By disconnecting it you remove the bad signal, the PCM sees it is missing and uses pre-programmed parameters. Also, with it disconnected see if the stalling stops. You may have a little erratic idle with MAF disconnected until the engine warms up.

The stalling only happened once, and after the stalling "service engine soon" signal appeared on the panel.

If the "SES" can be eliminated by disconnecting MAF sensor, do I need to change the sensor or just clean it? It seems that a brand new sensor is pretty expensive.

BTW, is it OK for me to just unplug the wire to disconnect the sensor "Mass Air flow in the figure"?

You're welcome.

You can try cleaning it (wire element only) with MAF or electrical contact spray cleaner. But in most P0102 cases it does not help but it does not hurt to give it a shot. Disconnect the connector with ignition to off first and then start the car.
