Manual Transmission lube capacity???
I have a 1998 Dakota with the 3.9L, V-6, 5 speed and need to know the Manual transmission gear lube capacity. I drained the old and am trying to refill, but seem to have put in more than three quarts and more than I drained (I'm new to the truck; just got it so have no idea if it was at the right level).
Have been filling it thru the side plug and I assume it a "fill till it flows out" measuring system. Help anyone? I don't have access to an Owner's or Repair Manual at the moment to look this up. Last edited by Rmasters3; 05-11-2008 at 06:28 PM. |

Re: Manual Transmission lube capacity???
You never stated what motor you have?
V6 motor has a AX-15 which holds 3.27qts V8 motor has a nv-3500 which holds just over 2qts. |

Re: Manual Transmission lube capacity???
Normally, filling it through the side plug will be correct. It may not have been full when you drained it, that's why you put in more than you drained out. It should take just under 3 1/2 quarts

Re: Manual Transmission lube capacity???
It took about 3.25 quarts. We had three + and had drained what looked like just over 3 qts. Bought the 4th qt and only needed to squirt in a couple shots and it was filled. Thanks for the help.
