Racing with automatic?

Just curious how people "race" with automatics, when all you really have to do is floor the gas pedal? Basically whichever car is faster wins off the bat doesn't it (e.g. little driver skill involved)? Sorry if I'm missing something, but I'm new to the car scene.

hey...everyone has to start somewhere. basically, u can "brake torque" ur car, which is holding the brake an the gas on at the same time, then releasing the brake to go. SOME ppl, do a neutral drop which is VERY stupid to do. its a very easy way to blow ur tranny...but wut u do is rev in neutral, then drop to drive when u want to go (don't do this unless u want to replace ur transmission). once u get going, some ppl start in their "low" or "1st" gear, an then shift through the gears like a 5 spd (w/ out the clutch). if ur talkin bout hondas...psh...waste of time to really do a lot to an auto car, but some of the bigger powered cars are still fast as hell w/ autos. hope i was some help.

Yeah, in the little cars such as the Hondas and other such imports where the Powerband is fairly high up in the rev range its best to just use a manual.

But with more powerfull cars such as mine, the Auto doesnt care. I make enough low end torque its not even funny. Plus with a shift kit and a stall converter, I can set up my autotranny to shift faster and more consistent than you could ever with a manual.

Autos are best for drag racing, more consistent ET's. But in your case Manuals would be the best bet.

My $.02
