Does new or modified chip improve mileage?

I have 98 Sily K1500 4WD 5.7 gas.

My engine has way more power than I need. I don't care about losing power.

Would a new chip, or a programmer, help with mileage? Anyone have any direct experience?

thanks

Buy the time you sink the $300-600 in a chip and the benefit you will gain in miles (minimal) you would be better off keeping the money in your pocket for gas.
