Question 2001 for ranger #2 cylinder valve sticking

2001 ford ranger 3.0l engine has the #2 cylinder valve sticking. Mechanic found service bulleting from ford to replace the head with a new one. $1600 to buy and replace head. Any quick fixes like upper cylinder lubricant or something other than changing head?

Why not remove the head and have it fixed with new valves, guides, springs, etc or take it to a mchine shop? Maybe even find a used complete head from a boneyard.

Stop at an automotive machine shop and ask for advise. Let him listen to the engine. Pull the valve cover and wiggle this valve I think a valve guide is badly worn. A good machine shop can do a valve job and replace any badly worn guides or valves.
The also sell head sets and will fix you right up. Pull the head or heads and get a valve job.
Have the head shaved until it is flat and pressure tested. I would think you could do itself for around $500.00 for everything.
Or go to a scrap yard as suggested above. Are you sure it isn't a lifter sticking.

Before going into a major surgery on the engine try adding Upper Cylinder Lubricant by Techtron (Chevron) to your fuel. The valve is sticking due to carbon buildup. If this process is no joy, take the valve cover off and do a visual inspection of the valve spring and the cam lobe. If it still no joy, pull the head out for a valve job.
