Rotted out transfer case???

Hey all

I have a 2002 AWD Safari with 160000kms and took it in to check a leak. Turns out there is some kind of protective shroud under the case, and for me it collected salt over the years, and ate through the case and leaked. My wrench cleaned it all up, and JB welded the leak and so far, it seems like its holding

Anyone else hear of this??? Is GM doing any kind of recall on this??

Any help is appreciated!--PEZ

Re: Rotted out transfer case???

Welcome Aboard!

The case is magnesium. I doubt that there is any "rust through" warranty on it. Since the warranty for the vehicle is likely expired, you might not have any luck with a request for warranty service, but it never hurts to ask in case there is a quiet recall or extended TSB oon the problem.

My 2000 runs in salt spray 6 month out of the year, and has no evident corrosion. I just had the case out last week to repair the transmission.
