Throttle Position Sensor

Does anyone know if you have to have the exact same numbers on the throttle position sensor and if they don't match exactly it won't work. I had found out in a previous post that the numbers have to line up exactly when your exchanging the map sensor otherwise you won't be working. I'm asking because it looks like my TPS has failed and I'll be looking to get a new one. But Idon't know if I need an exact match or not. Thanks for your input.

Re: Throttle Position Sensor

Why do you think your TPS is bad?

Many times they are just out of adjustment.

From your high idle thread, it sounds like you have a vacuum leak, stuck or binding throttle cable.

A high idle is normally not the fault of a bad tps.

If you are replacing with a used one, the numbers should match.

An aftermarket new one will not have the same numbers.

The big difference is if it were from a manual or auto trans. I know with the automatics they were different connections to the wire harness and the earlier ones had a shorter neck than the later ones. So a match of the numbers will assure you have the proper fit.

Post your numbers here.

Re: Throttle Position Sensor

You are probably right about the TPS being out of adjustment. Do you know how to adjust it back where it should be? Also can you help me out in figuring out if the throttle cable is stuck or binding? I'm not completely certain what you mean. The TPS will be going on a 94 Geo with manual transmission. The numbers are as follows:
13420-50G00
198500-3090

Also do you know anything about the Idle Speed Control Motor and what its main purpose is?
