89 ranger brakes groans

My 89 ranger 2wd disc brakes groan near the end of the stop. seem to only do it when i stay somewhat hard on the pedal. if i ease to a stop i don't get any groan. i put new pads and new rotors on about 5000 miles ago. i did not turn the new rotors. just wondering if i get the rotors turned if that may take care of the annoyance.

It very well could. Looks like the pads never seated properly.

if you turn the rotors then make sure to change the pads again or you will wear the rotors irregularly. if you have a waranty on the pad you should be able to exchange them for new ones.

Anyone in the know will tell you the rotors (even though new) should be turned prior to using them. I don't subscribe to this line of thinking. They should be all right from the machining at the factory. If you didn't use new brake hardware (shims and springs) it could be the reason for the noise.
