Spray Paint Alternatives
OK,
Looks like the resolution to the UK Tamiya paint problem has been pushed back again and I am in desperate need for some decent looking red paint for my stack of Ferrari kits. Was in my modelling supplies store today and noticed they carried a line of humbrol acrylic sprays, one of which was temptingly called Ferrari Red. Anyone know how this paint compares to the Tamiya equivilant?

Re: Spray Paint Alternatives
These are pretty good. I got fed up with the Hi-Cote spray can colours after my LHS brought these in. One word of warning they take a bit longer than TS sprays to harden, but if you leave it an extra day between final wet coats you'll be fine.

Re: Spray Paint Alternatives
Have you considered a spray can of custom mixed paint from Halfords?

Re: Spray Paint Alternatives
actually, I do use Halfords paints as well; I've just never asked for a colour to be mixed and well, it never occured to me that they could.
As I sort of said, I just saw the Humbrol paint in 4D and wondered if it's a good replacement. On a side note, does anyone know how close Alfa Romeo's red is to Ferrari's? Edit: Just sprayed some of the Humbrol Red onto some wing mirrors and I have to say, it covers quite nicely. It's only a first coat so it might not be the true colour but so far it looks more orange than Tamiya's Italian Red so this might be perfect for the older Ferrari kits that we seem to be getting these days. Also, is it me or does the paint itself smells an awful lot like Tamiya's TS paints.

& as we can't get replacements at the moment, I thought I'd try out a Halfords spray can, just to see if it would be compatible. Tested it first & seemed ok, so painted the whole thing & no problems at all - no reaction or anything, so I guess that they're pretty similar
