Ferrari F430GT2, Tecnomodel 1/43

Building Maxi is really hard and I need something to relax.

Tecnomodel is definitively that, those little kits are just perfect and are real joy to build.

So I started with painting chassis with primer, then Revell 7, very diluted, and finishing with Alclad Aluminum, extinguisher is chrome.




and this is how big this is, sorry non smokers this was the only thing in reach of my hands.



Then I prepared the body, washed with nitro thinner, primed, painted Zero pure white and lightly over coated with 2K clear.






After that, decals, they look really nice but they are a bit on the thick side, there is quite a lot of carrier around them and comparing with ones in 575 1/24 kit they look....well fat.
After them 2K strikes again, this time I tried different method, I applied 6-7 very light coats and everything looked good but decals were sticking out like crazy. So two more heavier coats were applied and this is where I stand.

Now I am left to wait for clear to harden and try to sand it fully smooth. I will see, maybe one coat of clear will be required after that.

Well, from my point of view the paint and decals look great. Photo's always seem to bring out the blemishes so I imagine it looks much better in real life. The fact that it is only 1/43 makes the finish even better!

Great looking car can't tell the decals stick out. I have a 1/24 575 in the to do pile might have to get one of their 1/43 kits looks very well made.

I have done a bit more, well almost everything

here is group shot of parts



Disks are great, made by folding PE parts, painted with alclads



Dash and seat are primed with Tamiya primer from distance to get rugged look (so was engine cover)







I have put CF on all parts that will be seen, I used fine modeler's CF



I also added few wires on the electronic boxes, I will still add few more in both engine and interior.



And for the end, body is polished and dry fitted. Not bad after all

That sums up why i chose 1/24 over 1/43 ferraris...

i can't even see / hold the minature parts, how to paint & detail like this!?!?
hehe, i'm an old man here...and gee, this is really out of my boundary!

Really nice work! Your finish looks very good to me.

I discovered the joy of 1/43 scale only a year ago or so. I enjoy being able to knock out a kit in a few weeks vs. a few months. It helps prevent builders block with the potential dread of another long project.

I look forward to seing the completed pics.

to a certain extend i agreed with you...the time needed to churn out a 1/43 vs 1/24 in full detail, that is.

but in terms of detailing, you can only do THAT much of work in such a tiny scale...unless you're talking about those golden kits ($$$) with full engine & openings etc...

also, the sheer size for leisure viewing, is badly hinder in 1/43...especially for older folks like me with bad eyesight, to pickup any details (if there's any). i ever took a real closer look at those BBR ready made models & i found it wanting...i can do the same car better in 1/24, abeit for a lower cost.

but then i can't deny that the range for 1/43 ferraris is just astonishing! both in ready made or kit form. but those rare ones do come at a price.

so it all adds up to what each modelor is looking for...time, details, variety or price etc...

I must say I agree with Marc, i spend few hours trying to make connectors and wires for electronic box. I started with Sakatsu wire with connectors from heat shrinking tube. In the end it all looked like a big fat wall, no good. Then 0,2 lead, very thin and fragile with 0,5 lead drilled with 0,3 bit (I have good vision but man I nearly lost it ). I will try to replicate at least some of the engine lines and tubes but how to make good looking connector (those clear blue and red ones)?
If you ask me 1/43 is to small, good for F1, but then again 1/24 is to big since you have to spend a lot of time, I would really like 1/32 cars, that scale looks perfect to me.

so much said, i would be cheating you if i tell you that i never got tempted to get a 1/43 rare ferrari ever before! the model range are just too good to ignore man!

Here it is, nearly done, still need to clear coat rear wing, put rear view mirrors and seat belts.

Everything is still just dry fitted so the wheels are not in perfect position.
