Hi everyone! Long time reader, first time poster.
I have a 2000 buick century and love it. Some minor parts of the interior are starting to come off, (the AC knob, lol) but a great car for me. However, I have run into what I am afraid will be a costly problem depending on what your expert opinions are.
Here is what happens.
I usually get home @ 10 at night, start the car up again around 9am. I have about a 30 min drive. I start the car up and it runs smooth, shifting like butter as usual, and then all of the suddon it happens. Now if I choose to take the freeway into work, the car does great on the freeway, until I get off and get into some stop and go lights and traffic and then boom, is starts shifting very hard. I am tring to baby it, so to speak now when I advance from a stop and that seems to have no effect once the problem starts. So, lets say that I have been driving in the car for 10 min in usual traffic, the car does great, and then it is almost like clockwork the hard shifting returns. Once I shut the car off for around 20 to 30 min, and then get back in the car and go somewhere, the problem stops and then returns again within 5 to 10 min. It is a hard shift too, the whiplash kind.
I have had the transmission fluid and filter changed. That is really all.
Please advise me on you best possible diagnosis and steps on how to resolve the issue.
Thank you for your time.
