98 rodeo spark plug gap

I am looking to replace the spark plugs on my 98 rodeo with Denso double Platinum PK16PR-L11 plugs. Sparkplugs.com sells those gapped at .035 and they recommend that I not try to change the gap as the tip is sensitive and will likely break or get damaged. Isuzu recommends a gap of 0.044, if I am not mistaken. sparkplugs.com support say to try and use it without regapping. Is that advisable? Of course I could pay the dealer $16/plug but I am hoping to save some by buying online. Thanks,

Cool Re: 98 rodeo spark plug gap

Why double platinums?

I know why, just wondering if you know.

Re: 98 rodeo spark plug gap

They should be gapped from Denso at .044 the last number in the part number is the gap. 11 means 1.1mm which is .044".

Denso part number specs

I have the same plugs in mine that I got from sparkplugs.com and didnt gap them. Works fine. Dont remember if I checked the gap or not.

Re: 98 rodeo spark plug gap

Thanks for the excellent info Dave. 1.1 mm it is then.
Cat Fuzz, no I dont know why double platinum. I saw some old thread on sparkplugs on this forum that mentioned that double platinum is recommended. So I went with it. I figure its cause double is better than
single platinum :-) Is there a more technical reason?

Re: 98 rodeo spark plug gap

Same reason the distributorless late model TJs use double platinum plugs. Misfires. Ion sensing technology in the Rodeo. Don't know exactly why the distributorless TJ I6 like double platinum plugs.
