Thinkin bout a Grand Prix

OK everyone. . . I am looking for everyone's two cents on this matter. I currently own a 2000 Grand Am GT and I love it. Unfortunatley it is about time for a new car! I have been looking at Grand Prixs (04 and up) and I like them a lot. I have test driven a couple and read all the reviews. But all of this is nothing compared to talking to those who actually drive one everyday. So I was wondering for all of you who have one, what do you think? Are you happy with it and would you recommend buying one to your friends? Let me know what you think! Thanks

Never driven a 2004+ GP. They look nice, but I prefer the looks of the 97-03 better. Nothing personal, just my preference.

If you buy one, do yourself a favor and dont get a "plain jane". Just so when you go to sell it, its still worth some money.

i would say get a 2002 GTP, the '04+ are pretty much junk in my opinion. too much body clatter...etc.

UNLESS...your gonna get a GXP

Just wondering.... Why a 2002, and not a 2003? Whats the difference?

never was a huge fan of the '03, plus...they still made the coupe in '02

I have an 04 GTP and really like driving it. If I was to do it over again, I would get one newer than 04. Mine seems to have a few problems that may have been associated with it being a new body style. Overall though it has tons of power, handles great, and looks good too. I agree with the above comment that you should spring for some options up front so it stays worth a little bit in the end. It will also make it much more fun to own.

Namely, engine size/type differences and options packages.

As you progress from an SE to a GTP you can power and performance along with options, that is what is important to me at least.

Here is my take on it Tim. Although the coupe was discontinued which I didn't care for, the 2003 models may be the best '97 - '03 Grand Prix ever made. Reason is for the 2003 production year GM moved assembly from Fairfax, Kansas to Oshawa, Canada where the sister Regal was built since 1997. Re-tooling was easy and already in place to some extent. And there is no doubt in my mind the Regal through the years had overall better quality and reliability than the Grand Prix in comparison. I know that from personal experience. And I'm quite sure the '04 and up models are assembled in Oshawa, Canada but the jury is still out on that generation. GM now makes the newly redesigned Chevy Malibu at the Fairfax plant.

What do mean by neutered? Same models were offered such as SE, GT and GTP except in 4 door only and basically the same options and engines. One thing to note for 2003 is the 4T65E and HD versions of the autotransaxle were improved. They have the modified valve bodies and revised second version pressure control solenoid (PCS).

If anyone is selling a 2003 GTP in black, red or silver with acceptable mileage let me know.

my take is that on the '03, most of the standard options on the '97-'02 were then made non standard IE ABS, TCS, and a few others.

never knew that the HD was built better in '03. thats a good tid bit of info to know.

I'm with Bob on the G8 comment though...if you got the money, just go with the G8 GXP. theres just something about the 423 HP that catches my attention

thinkin about selling the GTX. i'm looking at an '07 black GXP. if i do decide to sell it, i think i could get around $10,500.00 for it. I'm a little far away from Texas though
