2000 F-150 Vibration During Light Braking

Hello and thanks for reading. I have a 2000 F150 V6 manual that has a persistent vibration during light braking. I've had the rotors turned, and have replaced the front pads and rear shoes.

I notice no vibration other than during light braking. Hard braking seems to clear the problem.

I'm having difficulty diagnosing this as there are various TSBs that range from drive shaft issues to steering components.

Any ideas?

Can you describe the vibration? (rapid, slow, makes noise or not, in the pedal, in the front end etc)

Re: 2000 F-150 Vibration During Light Braking

I have had rotors turned in the past and I still had a vibration afterwards. My solution was to buy new rotors.

Sometimes a mechanic will machine the rotors but they still don't come out perfect. Depending on how much rotor you have left, you might want to try re-machining them again or if you don't have much thickness left you might just need to buy new ones.

What about your rear brakes? I'm not sure if 2000's have drum or rotors? Maybe your rear brakes need machining.

The suggestion to look at your rear brakes as well is very sound

If you live in the salt belt, then the rotors will probably need replaced at every brake job which is about every 30,000 miles. I see it everyday here in NE Ohio and the F-150 front rotors come off extremely hard and turning them after that kind of punishment is a waste of money and time.

when you see the cost of machining a rotor and the cost of a new rotor it doesn't really make sense to machine them.

25 plus dollars for machining (each) and 40 bucks for new rotors (each).
