Trouble with inspection
Hello guys,
I have Venture 2002, with over 116K on it. Now, few weeks ago have had SES lights coming on and stayed for a while. Went to auto zone and reset code, then came back on in just a few days. It was something about lean engine and oxygen sensor. 2 weeks ago went to make inspection and didn't pass because of oxygen sensor. So, I went to autozone and bought oxygen sensor and replaced myself. Also did disconnect battery's both positive and negative and was off for about 2-3 hours until I did replace oxygen sensor. So, I replaced oxygen sensor, reconnected battery and didn't have this SES light again. Went next morning to make inspection and didn't pass again. The message was "Your vehicle has too many unset (not ready) readiness codes." They also told me to drive 100-150 miles to reset the computer. Did drive over past few days over 160 miles and went this morning to make dang inspection again and didn't pass again and gave me the exact same code. Then I went to Chevy dealer and ask them about it and they told me that usually it reset itself for 50-150 miles. On some cars it take a bit longer. Now my question is if that's trouth or not?? Do I need to do anything else?? Is it anything else screwed up on this van or ....???? I am not sure what to do anymore. Any advice is more than welcome. May be I did overlook something or ... Very sincerely, Dino |

Re: Trouble with inspection
What was the code no to start with?
Yes some cars are slow learners. A battery disconnect is not a good way to clear codes. There is some certain drive cycles you can go threw to help relearn. Try driving at different speeds on different road conditions and see if it resets. If not you may still have a sensor problem that may keep it from reseting. In that case you will need to get it on a good engine capable scanner and check things out. Let us know how it goes. MT

Re: Trouble with inspection
Basically you are trying to fix something that you do not have the skill or equipment to correct. You probably have not corrected the lean condition by just replacing the part that is only reading the problem and may not be the cause. As MT2500 said, the disconnect battery issue is only aggravating the situation.

Re: Trouble with inspection
don't drive all 50-100 at once. the ecu need to go through a few diferent start- stop to re-learn and set the readyness on the sensors. if you have a good scanner, it can tell you what need to be reset to readiness. if no other code, then it just take a few times to get the readiness to reset.

Re: Trouble with inspection
So, what should I do then??
How can I fix that?? Or do I need to go to dealer and let them fix that?? Quote:
