i bought a 2001 nlincoln ls v8. the driver side headlight was very blurry, but not foggy. so i read on a forum saying to put the headlight ina oven wrap it wit a towel at so and so degrees take it out pry it apart... all that crap. i cleaned the inside put it back together and everything seemed fine til it rained, then it became very foggy. and theres a lot of water in it. how did tghe water get in there??? i sealed it with extra silicone around the entire headlight???

Re: foggy headlight...worse then before
Sounds like you missed a spot, one of the vents isn't intstalled, there was a hole in the lense or housing that didn't get sealed, or the bulb isn't in right.
If the water is clean and didn't make everything dirty, you can remove the vents (just don't forget to put them back on) and aim a fan at the opening for the bulb to dry out the moisture. When I take a headlight lens off to clean it, I reinstall using very thin CA glue that I get from the local hobby shop along with the CA accelerator. The very thin CA runs into all the small crevices and does a nice job of sealing the lens well. I haven't had one leak yet. -Rod |

Re: foggy headlight...worse then before
Never mind. I found a post (below) that explains how to do it but I dont think I want to wrap them in a towel and bake them at 350 degrees in the oven
. If there is a better way to loosen the adhesive sealer let me know. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ght=headlights

Re: foggy headlight...worse then before
I haven't tried baking either, and can understand being a bit leary to do it. What I was lucky enough to have work for me was to remove the housing from the car, plug one of the little vents and seal off the opening for the bulb, then hold the blow gun tip connected to my air compressor against the second vent and blow the lens cover off without cracking it.
Just be sure that when it gives, the lens won't go flying across the garage and skid across the floor or smack a harder material that will crack the lens. Fortunately I'm NOT speaking from experience on that aspect. ![]() -Rod |

Re: foggy headlight...worse then before
Hmmm, lets see now. I can:
1-bake it off 2-blast it off 3-leave it alone I'll choose option 3.

Re: foggy headlight...worse then before
Water is constantly present in air so unless you can vacuum seal the lens, there is no way to be completely sure theres no water in the lens when you seal it.
The water in the lens is actually sweat from inside the lens casing itself. |
