Truck is getting an engineectomy and when I loosened the engine from trans I noticed a fair amount of trans oil flow out. This explains the oily trans exterior from front to rear. Engine is gone so I have good access to the front of the tranny. Anyways front shaft seal has got to go but I never saw one stuck so. I pretty much destroyed it and its not showing any sign of leaving and I used a proper puller. Next I pulled the bolts from the surrounding cover to remove it that way. No dice, it will tap slightly and I can see there is some sort of engagement for a rather large special tool of some sort but its not leaving anytime soon by tapping.
How does that front center flange come out of there? Do I have to notch out a 3 inch pipe to fab up a tool or does the right degree of tapping / tugging allow it to slide forward. Clymers manual is a joke in the trans dept.
