04 Trailblazer Ext codes & un-diagnosed problems

Ok well to start off I took my TB to Pep Boys (big mistake. they're a rip off around here). They ran a diagnostic and found the codes p0455 and p0442. Replacd the gas cap and said maybe it is the fuel pump. They asked for $300 to just take out my fuel tank. I denied b/c that is out of my budget.

So I take the car home and sure enough the next day my wife is taking me to work and the gas pedal sticks and starts to accell then the RPM's drop as the steering goes haywire and the TB stalls. This is the 3rd time this has happened within 2 weeks. It's the reason I took my TB in to Pep Boys for the diagnostic.


Now, I am hoping it is not something that will break my bank. Taking it to Chevy on Monday but I wanted to know if anybody has had any similar activity with their trail blazer?

Smart move running from that Pep boys.
The codes is for emmision system vent/vacuum leaks.

The gas pedal is another problem.
We hope the dealer can get it fixed.
Do not try to tell them how to fix it .
That is there job or what you will be paying for.
Just tell them what it is doing and let them have at it.

Be nice but sure about who works on it.
Do not let the put the grease monkey or wash boy on it.
Ask that only a factory certified gasoline engine performance specialist work on your car.
Not all dealerships are concerned with how repairs are dispatched, and not all dealership techs bother to take advantage of the training offered by factory (the vast majority of which is paid training). If the dealer is uncooperative, ask for your money back and call around for a dealer that will accommodate you.

Chevrolet said it is the throttle actuator causing my TB problems. Going to replace that, but they also suggested replacing my gas tank because it was recently banged up a lot and the fuel filler neck was bent down.


Could that be from pep boys replacing my gas cap?
