fuel level gauge????

hey..so i noticed the other day that my gas gauge was stuck on 1/4 tank..this is the first time i noticed it..i reset my tripometer everytime i fill up my gas so i know how many miles i get to a tank..so i filled it up and the needle went back up!!! but its kinda stuck at 1/2 tank know but it does move just its not reading right..i assume its the fuel level sensor? which is on the fuel pump? which is in the fuel tank..which sucks! any advice

Re: fuel level gauge????

Typical diagnosis of gage rheostat failure. Solution is to pull the tank. Not sure if this is a one piece unit ( gage, pump, strainer ) or seperate parts. Most newer cars are one piece units and cost like hell. If you have some miles on it, I would change everything while it was apart. Just be sure to run your tank down before you start. Gas is about 8 pounds per gallon. 10 gallons = 80 pounds extra weight.

Re: fuel level gauge????

A bit late, but on the vette forums they say bad fuel can foul the resistor strip. Sorry I don't have more details, but it may be premature to drop the tank.
