Coilover squeak

I have the Ground Control coilovers. They ride great, but they squeak when I hit a bump. They're on the stock struts for my 94 Si. Any ideas why it squeaks? I had the car in the driveway and I bounced on the trunk a lot and it didn't squeak. Only when I hit bumps. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Re: Coilover squeak

bushings usually cause the squeaking noise which is caused by metal rubbing on rubber for a period of time they usually leave shiny spots on the rubber thats a good indicator of where the noise is coming from

Re: Coilover squeak

Alright. How hard is it to replace a bushing? And are they on the top or bottom of the strut? I know motors, not suspension. Sorry

Re: Coilover squeak

well you have some where the coil meets the body try tightening those first if they are loose then they will squeak as well you know when you open the hood and you see the shock tower on both sides thats where you have to tighten it up its the same area where you put a strut tower brace those busings have to be tight to where they are compressed

Re: Coilover squeak

Alright, I'll try that out and see how it goes. Also, my ball joints are completely messed up. Could part of it be that?

yeah ball joints play a big part of it too just look at it this way was it squeaking before you did suspension or after but replace the ball joints they will mess up your alignment and if you have low profile tires then it will end up costing you a couple tires

Re: Coilover squeak

try ebay i found all four front ball joints for my accord for under 100$ new and autozone wanted 100$ each as for mine you cant remove the upper ball the whole control arm has to be replaced the you have to have the car realigned as for the lower ball you can press it out but do all at the same time so realignment has good effect you might notice better steering response

Re: Coilover squeak

Oh. Well I tried to adjust the upper part in the engine bay like you said, but it's as tight as it goes. And so if I get new Ball Joints, I'd have to replace the whole control arm?

Re: Coilover squeak

only the upper control arms and they come with the ball joints reason being is that the ball joints are welded into the upper control arms the lower ball joints can be pressed out

Re: Coilover squeak

Oh, okay. I thought I had to buy new control arms as well. And just to play it safe, what if it's NOT the ball joints?

Re: Coilover squeak

how new are the coil overs? if used try to spray some wd-40 on the bushings under the shocktower because ive never heard of a problem involving the ball joints to squeak maybe the bushings are on backwards or incorrect in all my experience bad ball joints only mess up the alignment never heard them squeak though

Re: Coilover squeak

I bought them brand new. Had a friend put them on, he's a mechanic for the Toyota dealership. He put his Function and Form kit on his RSX. He said maybe the spring isn't in place correctly. We're going to have a look at it this Saturday.

Re: Coilover squeak

Oh. Well how would I set the spring right. Because I hit a bump today, and now it doesn't squeak. But any way I can make sure it stays in the place it's at? Like any sealent or anything?
