It's a BumbleBee!

Well, after doing the head job and valve replacement on my 1998 Metro 1.0L the CEL came back on and I had a catylist code in the system. I got to thinking because my EGR ports were dirty, but not plugged and I lost compression in #1 cylinder and not in #3 which is common for the EGR. I also noticed my fuel mileage got better, but not what I expected from the car.

I got a bug up my butt and decided to chop out the cat. I found all the guts inside were melted down and the cat was plugged. I patched in a piece of pipe and took it for a ride.....................

This little car had a major boost in power and right when the RPM's hit the "sweet spot" the sound coming out of the tailpipe sounds like a pissed off bumblebee! Now to upgrade the entire exhaust.

Re: It's a BumbleBee!

Don't go too big, you'll lose torque which is what this car needs most. Two inch crush bent is the absolute maximum, probably too much.

Re: It's a BumbleBee!

I was thinking of going 2" all the way to a nice, restrictive, quiet muffler and no cat.

Re: It's a BumbleBee!

When I bought my 1.0 L '93 Metro used three years ago, it had no CAT -
came from Montana.

It does that pissed off Hornet sound at a specific RPM - I asked about it on this
Forum and never got a really good answer.

Probably has to do with the "Resonator" that these babies are supposed to
have in the exhaust line of pipes.

I get 49 mpg in the hot part of summer.

If I move back to the City (Spokane), I will be required to have the Cat put
back in...DAMN!
