Unhappy 95 dodge caravan fuel issues

I have a 95 dodge caravan and i am having issues with the fuel, I think.
It started when I would be driving down the high way. It would seem like it would die and restart with in a split second. Then It started to get worse and actually die on the road and i would have to pull over, but after a minute or so it would always restart. I thought it was the fuel filter so i had that changed. Now there are times that it will run fine and I can go about 10 miles and nothing happen. But then yesterday it started doing it again. My fuel pump seems to be fine. Is it possible that maybe my kids could have stuck something in my gas tank and that is causeing problems? My youngest is three and a boy so he is all about cars. I just dont know what else it could be.

Welcome to AF

Always include which engine with question.

When was last tune up and how many miles on vehicle?

Have you tryed the key dance for codes. Turn switch to on/off, on/off, on without starting engine. Count the flashes of your Check engine light.

Exapmple---flash, pause flash flash mean code 12 if there are more than 1 code there will be a pause between codes, all codes are 2 digits.

Here is a online repair manual that will help you if you do not have a haynes or chilton manual:

http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairGuide.htm

Post back with any codes you may have, don't worry about codes 12 (disconnected battery in last 50 cycles and 55 means end of codes.

Re: 95 dodge caravan fuel issues

My van is a 95 dodge caravan, engine 3.1
I did try the self test and of course all I got was the 12. Which, I know is nothing but the battery. I just had a tune up done on it in January.
I have checked the vacuum hose and changed the fuel filter.
When I turn the vehicle on and let it idle, after about 20 min it just dies. When driving it, it will hesitate and I can push on the gas and my gear gage will go all the way up to 3 and 4 but I don’t go any faster, and then it just dies. Also, for the most part if I come to a stop and keep the gas at least pressed a little but also press the break, it does not die. Its only when I let off the gas completely that it dies. But after I let it sit for a few minutes it will start back up and I have to go fast or it will die again.
I need to take it in and have the codes read, but I can’t even get it to the closest one. ????? Help???????

Re: 95 dodge caravan fuel issues

it is possible you have condensation in the tank and of course water will not burn. Buy a couple of bottles of dry gas, water out, HEET (all are Isopropyl ((I believe)) alcohol and dump them in the tank, if it is condensation the alcohol will homogenize the water and let it pass. usual symptoms are lack of power, inability to accelerate, dying. At any rate the additives are cheap.
