98 S10 2.2 cooling and engine noise

I bought my truck brand new in 1998, it now has 167,000miles on it. I haven't had many problems with it, but I have had a used transmission put in at about 95,000 miles, at the time that was all I could afford and I broke a timing chain at about 150,000miles. Ever since I can remember it has had a ticking noise in the engine, I believe it is valve noise. It has gotten progressively worse over the last couple years, one of my friends comented that it almost sounds like a diesel. The engine has also been running hotter, when I run it for any period of time (40 minutes or more) the valve noise gets worse, the temp guage gets up near 210, and when I come to a stop the transmission drops out of gear. When I had the transmission changed out the first time it was because after driving it for about an hour it would start shifting hard from first to second. Could all of these problems be caused by poor oil circulation? If so what is the best way to deal with it? I have been told to use an engine flush, but I have read lots of forums where the say it can ruin your engine. I have also heard of people using Kerosene or trans fluid to help clean deposits out. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Do not try to flush the engien.
It does not sound good on engine or transmission.
Transmission and engine may be seperate problems.
Also engine heating up. But a good engine should be able to take 210 degrees without making noise.
You really need to get the engine noise and transmission problem checked by a good repair shop.
If transmission and engine is both bad it could cost more to repair than it is worth.
But a couple of quick questions?
How is the oil pressure or is it droping after good and warm?
Is the transmission fluid level and fluid good?
Has it ever had a filter change?
Any transmission or engine codes?
Any transmission slipping or shifting problems?
Is the noise in the upper or center or lower or front part of engine?
Does the engine have a good filter and engine oil in it and full of oil?
Can you change the noise or does it go away by disabling one cylinder at a time ?

Does the engine have a good filter and engine oil in it and full of oil? I use Fram filter and valvoline high mileage 5w 30 like specified
Can you change the noise or does it go away by disabling one cylinder at a time ?

Try to disable one cylinder at atime.That will tell you if the problem is on one cylinder.
And go from there.
