01 beetle transmission

My tranny all of a sudden got REALLY hard to shift, and when I shift into reverse it shakes the whole car. I was thinking that the clutch fluid might be low, but i cant find a reservoir. is it a cable clutch? if so, any thought as to why it got hard to shift all of a sudden, my fear is the clutch went out, but i have 0 experience with cable clutches

Re: 01 beetle transmission

its a hydraulic clutch, and the slave cylinder feeds off your brake fluid reservoir. it does sound like your clutch is worn out though. do you have to let the clutch pedal out almost all the way before it engages? usually its only half way and it should engage if your clutch isnt worn.
