96 Cabrio-2 problems speed/odo & starting

I've been having a problem with my speedometer not working when I hit a bump in the road-the speedometer & odometer both quit. When I hit another bump or when it feels like it, the speedometer will start working again and pick up at the correct speed that I am driving. Everything else on the cluster panel seems to be fine.
The other issue is that when the tank is lower on gas, the car has trouble starting. It cranks fine, the engine turns over and almosts starts-after a few tries and a short break, the car finally starts and runs fine after that.

Any advice that you can offer will be helpful-I can't stand to see my 5yr old get upset when the car doesn't start and he starts telling me he wants a new one. Thanks in advance for your help everyone.
