Heater Hose Replacement Question

I have a 97 Saturn SL2 with a manual trans. The coolant expansion tank connect to a pipe that runs along the right fender well. The connection from the tank to the pipe is a hose that has a clamp at the tank and a crimped feral to connect to the pipe. The pipe drop down along the firewall and then across the fire wall where another crimped feral to a hose connects to the heater. The pipe also extends toward the front of the car where a rubber hose using worm clamps or spring clams connects to the engine.

I would like to replace the hose ends connected to the pipe. The heater end should be easy enough since there is plenty of pipe to reconnect to, if I cut the pipe to remove the feral. I would use a hose and clamps. The problem is the connection from the tank to the pipe. Removing the feral by cutting off will not leave enough pipe to connect the hose.

Is this pipe hose configuration a dealer part or am I missing something. The counter folk at Autozone have no clue. Any Saturn techs have the anwer

Re: Heater Hose Replacement Question

Unfortunetly I Dont have a direct answer for you.

I would think that a radiator hose of the same diameter will be more than enough to extend what you cut off

Re: Heater Hose Replacement Question

Yes, that is a dealer piece as far as I know. They have a kit of sorts for it. But I don't think they want an arm and a leg; I inquired about it a few years ago. I should still replace it; mine has been weakend by a cracked head infiltrating the coolant with oil, and 200,000 miles! It must be a stout hose. All my others were weeping oil.

Re: Heater Hose Replacement Question

This is what I have done to replace the hose parts. Since the engine is out I removed the pipe and the hose ends. I cut the crimped ferules off and removed the hose ends. I took the hose ends to an auto parts store and matched the inside diameter and at similar bend. Each end was to long so they were cut off to length and the whole assembly has been reinstalled.
