s10 spark knocking

I have a 1991 S10, 2.5 vortec engine with automatic transmission and it has started spark knocking with regular gas. It has 170,000 miles. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be?

Check EGR valve operation.
If not working it will cause spark knock.

I had a 2.5L Pontiac Iron Duke in an '86 Cutlass...1 fine engine.
Does it idle good in gear?
