92 lumina engine problem

My wife drives a 92 lumina 3.1 euro with approx 175k. The other day she drove to work about 25miles away and said it ran great when she came out after work and started it it ran like crap. So when i got there the whole time i figured you know women probably a vacuum leak or something simple. While running it taps really loud in to top end of the motor(almost like the lifters are not getting any oil. It also revs really really high and when you try to give it any gas it bogs down and dies. After it dies it will not start for a few minutes. It will run by itself as long as you do not try and give it any gas just at a high rpm the tapping it so loud you almost cant stand being under the hood. I am at a complete loss with this problem and have not had it towed home from her job yet. i figured i would come here and get a second opionion. I wonder if maybe timing has jumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: 92 lumina engine problem

Start with a fuel pressure test, but the loud noise is the real issue no clue from this desk for that issue.
