1998 door lock issue

1998 caravan

The (electric) door locks lock repeated at maybe 60 second intervals. I have tried the iod fuse removal and replacement (the same fuse not a new one) mentioned in 2 other threads. This did not change the problem.

I have removed the 40A fuse for the door locks so the battery will not run down. I cannot drive the car this way because the 40 amp fuse removal also disables the turn signals.

Any suggestions on what I might do to fix the problem?

Thank you.

Re: 89 door lock issue

Schematic is showing a 9 amp fuse #3 on the Junction Block that controls the 3 door lock relays. Pull that instead.

The electronics on these vans are sensative to low voltage. Make sure your battery is up to speed and the connections are clean and tight. Check the contacts on the BCM connector for corrosion, bent/pushed contacts. Could try disconnecting the door panel switches one at a time and see if it stops. If all looks good you may need a new BCM.

Re: 96 door lock issue

I am having issues with my door locks as well, but mine started when I replaced my BCM on monday, had to replace it because wipers were not working, and mechanic said that it was the BCM.Anyways to make a long story short,I replaced it ,and the doors dont lock now,I was told 2 different fixes,1st,get the BCM flashed or programed again, which the dealer said he didnt know what I was talking about, since they can not reprogram BCMS,the other thing I was told is to check and make sure the serial/part number from the used Bcm,matches my old one.Or this will cause things not to work as well. Also my console above my head that shows the temp and gas usage and so on also stoped working since having the BCM changed.Any help would be appreciated since I am a newbie here, and am totally confused.
thanks .
Mike

Re: 89 door lock issue

Hi RIP,
Sorry about the delay in responding-just hard to get here anymore.

Looks like I'm in for a body control module. Battery stuff ok, BCM contacts ok although I broke one connector (on the harness side of course). Didn't try doors individually.

The fuses you directed me to were little wafers with spidery wire legs, I wasn't sure I could remove one of them without damage so I didn't try. I just pulled the relays. I had to pull all three before the relock cycling would stop. Manual locking is a little inconvenient and you have to watch your passengers when they exit, but it is deferring the cost of the repair at the moment.

Thanks for the reply.
