Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on a problem I have been having with my 2000 Tahoe...5.3 liter v8...basically the idle is considerably lower than it should be(between 350-400rpm) and it dies while in low idle or if I am at a stop light or in stop and go traffic and have the ac or heater on it will die, and on the advice of a local mechanic I have changed the throttle position sensor, sparkplugs, oil and serpintine belt and am still seeing these issues. I have had a diagnostic ran on the truck and it isnt producing any codes and I am not seeing the check engine light coming on....I dont know where to go from here and am at my wits end Any suggestions would be helpful...Thanks for reading!

Re: 2000 tahoe issues
Welcome to AF, a full scan can look at the iac counts, to see what the pcm is doing to maintain the idle, I assume no Cel?, also clean the throttle body and the iac. No more " maybe" parts replacement though.

the vehicle should idle at 500rpm in drive....with a/c on or off.... in addition to the throttle body /IAC cleaning, replace the pcv valve...check for vacuum hose condition.... all the parts that your mechanic recommended i don't agree with, i would find someone who is more knowledgeable..... i have found that the MAF should be cleaned every 20,000mi. so if you haven't done this get maf cleaner by crc and clean the small maf sensing wires when you clean throttle body/iac...warning do not get throttlebody cleaner on maf or you will damage the maf electronics....this has helped many including me to increase mpg and smoother engine operation good luck |
