I have a question and I'm sure each and every one of you have a different opinion on this one.

What would be the best Year and Model to get Whould a VR4 be a waste considering im going to drop the engen and replace it with a new one. What year range is ezest to get parts for.

Thanks guys I really look forward to your replys.

Re: Here is one I'm sure you guys wont all agree on.

no, a vr4 wouldnt be a waste because you still get the AWD. Why are you going to swap the engine and what are you swapping it with?

If you're going for a track car i would probably go with '93. cheaper than 2ng gen, but you get the better engine internals and 25-spline trans. But if you're doing a swap anyways, it really doesn't matter.

what are your goals for the car?

Re: Here is one I'm sure you guys wont all agree on.

The car is going to be more of a show car I am opening a new shop up and we are going to be taking some of are cars to shows a round the area to show off all the cool things we can do to get people interested in us.

I basically want a car that’s going to look good but also if some one is going to rev up to me at a light I want to be able to take them no one wants a car plastered with there name getting left in the dust.

But also we have this rule if your not going to drive it to the show don't build it no tailor queens you know. So the plan with the engine is to order all new parts from the block up so that we can get away with putting another 100,000 miles on her or so driving to shows all over. So the swap is more of a replace and upgrade.

As many body pieces as possible are going to be replaced right now I'm liking the carbon fiber look and my paint guy is amazing at faking carbon fiber so the end result is going to be a car that looks like its solid carbon

So basically she’s going to be built for looks but I don't want to be left sitting at a stop light and I don't want a car with a hundred thousand dollar interior exterior sitting in front of auto zone every day as I fix another broke part.

Re: Here is one I'm sure you guys wont all agree on.

well if looks is what you're going for, i would say '97, '98, or '99. They just look newer and more attractive. Mechanically, there is no difference between them. I would still say go with a vr4, so you can have the benefit of AWD and 6-speed tranny. The downfall is that they are'nt cheap.

Your other option is to get a 94-96 and do a 99 front end conversion.

what kind of budget do you have?

Re: Here is one I'm sure you guys wont all agree on.

Not sure on the budget its more like if I don't have enuf in the budget right now ill just put it off a few months and save back for what ever. Im looking at geting the car as cheep as possable considering very few parts are going to be keept maybe something a junk yard. I'm not sure but basicly there is no budget its more of a If I can't afored it now it can just wate type thing but to be practical going to try and keep it under 100,000 and spread the project over 2 Years. Aming for Vernon TX AUG 2010.

Re: Here is one I'm sure you guys wont all agree on.

well you shouldnt have any problem keeping it under 100k. lol

i would definitely say look for a 2nd or 3rd gen VR-4 with higher miles and/or a blown motor. From the sounds of it you're going to go all-out anyways, so all your really concerned with is a good chassis (AWD), and body.

If you havn't found 3si.org yet, that's going to be your best friend. Get on the for sale section of the forum and see if anyone is selling a car that fits your needs.

Re: Here is one I'm sure you guys wont all agree on.

get a 93+ VR-4 with lower miles on it. The factory engine can handle as much power as you want to throw at it. There are people with 600+ AWHP on the factor motor. Save your money from replacing the motor and use it on upgrades. This will come out cheaper for you unless you find a vr4 for cheap that doesn't have a working engine.

Re: Here is one I'm sure you guys wont all agree on.

Personally if your going for show car, stay with 94-99 VR4, represents the newer look, don't bother replacing the engine if no need be. Find a Vr4 for the year mentioned under 100K miles, for $7,000-10,000, that will get you a low mileage six speed, awd, twin turbo beast. No need to put in a built motor if you plan on keeping the car on the street, for traffic light races, upgrade the turbos in time, upgraded tranny, bigger fuel/injectors, stand alone fuel managment system, you'll have that sucker running easily 11's with 91 and above octane.

Don't waste money on a new motor until need be, these motors suprisingly do last a while, just depends how the previous owner took care of the car.

no, it doesnt have LSDs stock, but they do make aftermarket LSDs. Quaife maked a front and kaaz makes a rear. they run $1400-$1500 each though.

You can simply replace the questionable capacitors if you have some soldering skills for about $5 for the replacement caps.

I would also agree that the 1993 would be my favored year.
