plz help with overheat problem

Hi, I have 94 chrysler Lhs 3.5L and I have problems with it overheating and cant figure it out, here is what I have done to it.I have took all the line loose and looked for clogs, change the radiator, thermostat, changed the intake gasket because it was white smoking. Also I bleed it and it still overheats while driving it,you have to pull over for 30 minutes and let it cool down. Then I open the bleeder up and all that comes out is steam, does this for like 5 min of steam shooting out. Also there is no white smoke or water in my oil and no leaks at all,so were is this water going to get steam in the coolant system?Only thing else I can think of is blown head gasket or cracked head allowing combustion gases into the cooling system, but I would hate to do head gasket job on this engine could prolly take a day or so.

Re: plz help with overheat problem

Start by doing a compression test on the cylinders.

Sounds like compression getting into the cylinders. They make a tool that can check for a blown head gasket. It senses combustion gasses in the coolant and changes colors.

With the radiator cap off, start the engine and see if air bubbles are present, smell of exhaust gas/fumes. Place a playing card over the radiator opening and see if it vibrates up and down with any flow of combustion gases.

Um, I hate to ask about the obvious, but does the cooling fan come on?

An earlier post mentioned a test for combustion gasses in the coolant. The only place I know of that carries it is NAPA and it costs about $50. You'll get a test tube with rubber seals at both ends, a bottle of chemical, and a rubber bulb for pulling air through it. It comes with directions and is pretty easy to use. The only thing you really need to be careful about is sucking coolant into it as this will give you a false fail.
