Struts on 1999 Windstar 3.8L

Guys,

Thinking about doing struts on my 99 with 3.8 engine for Pep Boys wants $700. Looks involved in that you must take off the Tie Rod Ends, steering Knuckle, and more I'm assuming. Is this as hard as it looks or can one just follow the directions in the Haynes Book ? Also, are the struts eaiser to put in than the quick struts Monre makes .... what is the advantage of a Quick strut ? I can't imaging the springs go bad, so I'm thinking new struts sb fine w/o new springs. I have 128K on the van.

Thanks,

AJ

I replaced my own struts, too. It's not as bad as some of the books make it out to be.

See this thread for my experience, plus a link to pics:

Later update...

A lot of people like the quick struts; it saves a few steps during the job. That said, I kept my original springs and had no problems. Early Windstar models were noted for broken springs, which helped popularize quick struts. I've heard of fewer spring problems in later model years.

I spent less than half that at my local Farm & Fleet - Monroe Gas-Matics all around, including an alignment.
