'98 Maxima rough idle, hard starting.

Hey guys,

I have a 1998 Maxima GXE.
I have trouble starting, rough idles, and when I acclerate it tends to hesitate.

I've replaced spark plugs and gapped
-fuel injectors replaced
-wirings checked

My gas meter tends to bounce around a little. =(

And recently my engine check light came on. Had it checked by alot of places.
Two said it was my 02 sensor
Another said it was the coil packs
Another said it my check engine light was malfunctioning.....

HELP PLEASE!

Mileage?

Most common issues:

After 100k miles coilpacks start to go. No other way to find out than to replace. Same may be with O2.

As O2 wont affect startup, start from coilpack swaps = ouch$.

Rough idle can also be caused by MAF (or when cold, TPS)

About 137k Miles.

Coilpacks, What's the usual estimate or range price to replace coilpacks?

I've asked about replacing the O2s and its all around 3 Bills or more. Very sad

Thanks!

They do die ... electronics installed inside hottest spot ensures that busines will be good.

If u can open the hood, u can replace coilpacks.

Ask various shops.

Rockauto.com ???

Re: '98 Maxima rough idle, hard starting.

Hm is it that simple? Well I am curious to see if I am able to do it (yes i can open the hood haha). Now the only problem I face is... Which ones do I buy. I'm car dumb, more or less. I do understand somethings but not all. So any tips or guides? =)

Problem(s) before this one (hope this helps):
-Cylinder 1 Misfire
-Right Bank too rich

BTW. I went to Firestone and Sears Auto and asked about the O2 Sensors.
I asked how much was it to replace and
Firestone said it was 295 total.
Sears Auto said it was 800 estimate.
I'm pretty sure theres more than one then? Going nuts haha.

Thanks for Helping!! I appreciate it. ALOT!!!

No warranty

If you swap cylinder 1&2 coilpacks, problem shifts accordingly = confirms the problem source. Also you learn to swap . Nobody is hurt if you buy one at a time; start from that cyl1 coilpack.

Only after all bad (?) coilpacks swapped, goto O2 - if necessary.

Older maxima has one sensor, newer models have two plus on for nissan fun (diagnostics) =total 3. Each installed into exhaust piping. Swap price is one 10$ tool, one connector to disconnect/connect, dirty hands...

...O2 price ref, www.rockauto.com
DENSO Part # 2343098
Front Left $50.79
Front Right $50.79

DENSO Part # 2344716 Rear $56.79

=all Total 106...
