Popping though tailpipe

I have a 97 lincoln town car, I had to take the manifold off because it was leaking water from the heater hose to the intake, it was running pretty good before but after everything was put back together it has a popping noise in the tailpipe & the check engine light comes on and will not flash a code. What do ya'll think it could be.

You are correct.. the OBDii won't flash the codes, you need to have a code reader. Most parts shops will connect a reader and tell you what the fault codes are, free.

I'm going to guess a spark plug wire is not installed correctly. Another thing to look out for is water inside the spark plug wells; get a long stem blow gun (COVER YOUR EYES) and blow at the bottom of each spark plug well.

I unhook the battery drove it light stay off for a few mins then came on & if i saw it right it flashed 91 or 92 times???? Is that right... does any one know of a site where i can get codes for this car.

Be careful of those catalytic coverters + oxygen sensors,they don't like water.

1) Buy a OBDII scanner from Pepboys or AutoZone and check codes.
2) Visual Inspect Spark-plug wiring.
3) Visual Inspect fuel Injector connectors.
4) Check Intake + EGR system for Air-Intake leaks.

You can do this with Engine running and using Starting fluid,WD40,or a propane torch.
I like to use WD40 with that red straw!

Pinpoint suspected Target areas! The Engine will tell when you find the leak.
