Hypertech Programmer

I'm not sure if it has been discussed before (other thread?), but I'm curious if anybody has used the Hypertech Max Energy Programmer on their Suburban. I have a 97 K2500 w/ 7.4 L and was thinking of using the Hypertech. Any thoughts (or better: experience).
A friend of mine with a F-250 pickup swaers by it.

Thanks

Re: Hypertech Programmer

Tampering with the emissions is on the border line of being illegal.

What are you wanting to do with it?
Helps Gas mileage sometimes and sometimes not.
You can give it more power but more power may be less mileage and create other problems.

Diesel owner's have good luck with them but on a gas engine it is a sometimes helps and sometimes not deal.

Re: Hypertech Programmer

MT,
Just trying to get info here.....to get my registration renewed, my vehicle emissions are tested every other year and I pass just fine.

You're correct....I've heard all about these "chips" for Diesels, not sure about gasoline

Hypertechs website states the following for gasoline engines...

"Hypertech Power Tuning---Optimized spark and fuel curves over the entire rpm range to deliver more horsepower, torque, and improved fuel efficiency."

They are not a chip but a programer that can change the chip or prom settings.

State emission check stations usuall do not pick up on them being installed.
But they could fail emissions inspection if the station knows it is used or if emmisions is bad.

Factory warranty is not good if it has been used.

They claim they are leggal in 50 states but also say to remove programing and set it back to stock if it goes in for repair.

They usuall help on HP but it is hard to have more HP and fuel mileage unless a diesel together.
I have say them improve mileage and HP and pulling power a lot on Diesel engines.
Even some dealers reprogram diesels for better mileage and performance.
BUT WITH THERE OWN PROGRAMING.

Good luck
