f***ing crank bolt
sorry i gotta vent off the anger. i was trying to take off my crank bolt yesterday.
so i got a question because idk if i am doing it right. now which way am i suppose to turn the bolt to take it off. normally its counter clockwise to take bolts off but since the engine spins counter clockwise, do i try and take the bolt off clockwise ? if i do that would suck because ive been trying to take it off counter clockwise this whole time. i threw in a 1/2 air gun, my breaker with a 4 fooot pipe on it, and nothing. i am afraid i am gonna snap my breaker in half. its already bent left because of all the force i put on there. its really starting to piss me off. sorry i gotta vent |

I had the exact same problem. I tried two different impact wrenches...one with the compressor goosed to 150 PSI, the long bar and lots of swearing.
What I ended up doing is buying a good quality impact wrench.....there are differences. Ingersoll Rand makes a killer. It took it right off. The impact wrench cost about $200. Sears has it and their own killer. The boss I used to have at the VW shop always said to get the good impact tools becaseu they have more power than the cheap stuff......He was right. The bolt comes off counterclockwise (lefty loosey....normal direction). It is cadmuim plated so I think a little electrolysis gets going on there and it may get stuck. Don't lose the woodruff key when you finally get the pulley off. |

they come off counter clock wise like all bolts, I had drive my car to a mechanic shop and they had to use a 3/4 inch
impact wrench on my pully bolt to bust it loose. 1/2 inch wouldnt cut it.

It took me 1 1/2 hours of tq wrenching to get mine off the ZC... Fanly came off didnt switch guns because my brothers Impact gun is like a $500 one that can be adjusted up 1000PSI
Our compressor can only make 500Psi (Its about 5 1/2 feet tall and bigger aroung than jhon candy) I used 500 PSI with the gun set @ 500 PSI and it STILL took 1 1/2 hours and alot of WD40.... Try Try Try Try and Try somore is my advice....I had a ruff ass time getting the presure plate off for the A/T trany that came on my ZC... Got all the bolts off except 1. This 1 1/2" 12 point bolt ATE 4 of my IMPACT 12 point 1/2" sockets (Atualy I think it was 18-19 mms since its all metric) These sockets are like $16 each from Snap On (R) <---- They made me do that... I finaly got it off by using my oxy-asetiline torch and alot of grease on the block to provent it from burning it... Melted the end right off the bitch took the plate off and just backed it out! |

Go Lo-Tech!
Whilst trying to take this very same bolt off of a Mazda 626, I was stuck for a couple of days. I broke cheap sockets one after another. Finally I got a good socket, and broke my ratchet.
Eventually, I walked down the alley and grabbed a 12 foot pipe out of a neighbor's yard. I recommend the 12-foot cheater pipe. Works like a charm. Flunky |
