PLEASE HELP! Shift Lock Problem detailed pics of problem

My corolla is acting up lately. Keep in mind, it is an AUTO. the problem is that when it engauges into park, it doesnt always fully lock in. Therefore i cannot start the car if it is not fully in park position. I took the whole entire center console apart to look at it. It seems like the shift lock system where it pops up a piece of plastic mechanically. Does anyone know how to adjust this so it sits in all the way? or to a point where it wont give me any problems, my dad was driving the corolla and he got stuck at work because of this problem. I need this fixed as soon as possible.

Circled part is what im talking about, i have adjusted the rectangular part but that might only be a temp. fix

More detailed look. ( this is in park position)

Gear Shift Button partially engauged down.
