91 Prizm won't start in park unless

I use excessive force to push it forward -- and even then, it takes quite a few tries. Does anyone have any ideas about what's going on? This has only been happening for a week now... Thanks.

Does the shifter seem tighter, or maybe not going into the proper sections? It could be a stretched cable from the shifter to the trans or maybe worn linkage.
