tranny filter for turbo 400 tranny

when i tighten the bolt that holds the filter in place, the filter can slop up and down still, as in it is not tight against the valve body. Is this normal or is the bolt suddenly too long for some reason? i also tried to use a longer bolt with a spacer for a deep pan and it still is able to slide up and down the bolt about 1/8th or 1/4 inch or so.

Re: tranny filter for turbo 400 tranny

Perfectly normal, they are made that way. The correct bold has a plain (unthreaded) section on the shank, so that it will not compress tightly against the filter. The filter should be free to move up & down slightly when the bolt is tight. No worries, the pan keeps it from going anywhere. But I do suggest using a 2nd O-Ring on the metal filter tube where it slides up into the case of the trans. I have noticed all the sucky trans filter companies have stoppped including the O-Ring in their kits, even though they still show it in the tiny picture on outside of box. (All the major auto parts stores "house brand" are now this way). Boo on them!! I guess they are saving 1/20th of a penny per filter kit, huh? Thanks a lot, China.

i assume that you are referring to the pickup tube that goes from the front corner of the filter up to the transmission, right? i used a B&M transpac and it supplied both o-rings for the pickup tube
