2001 Yukon idling fast and check engine light only on for very short time

Hi all,

2001 Yukon XL runs very well but idles park around 1000 rpm and the check engine light comes on, but not long enough to get it any where to have it checked. This has happened a few times in the past couple of weeks. I have cleaned the throttle body and the MAF out with no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you get it scanned? Even if the light is out, there should be a history of codes set.

Look for any cracked, broken or disconnected vacuum lines. A high idle can be a vacuum leak.

Ive replaced the Idle Air Control Valve on my 2001 because it would get stuck slightly open and idle fast. I drove it around the block to get it to re-seat itself.

Is there any chance of taking that IAC out and cleaning it up ?

Its pretty easy to take out. Just unclip the wires and remove the 2 torx bolts holding it in. I dont remember what size they were tho. You should be able to use some mild cleaner on it and the seat.
