Removed battery now lots of problems

Just looking for a little guidence to understand what just happened.

05 Montana US Base.

First I was replacing the dash cluster with an e-bay pruchased cluster. (the original was ka-put).

I dissconnected the battery. Repalced the dash. And reconnected the battery.

Now the SIRS lamp is always lit and the radio (RDS unit) is locked.

Did I fry something or does this vehicle lose its mind when the battery is dissconnected?

Will this happen every time the battery is dissconnected?

The cluster has to be programmed to the van, you need to have a tech 2 gm scanner/programmer to do this. Else you need to bring it to the dealer and have them do it.

did you try and reprogram it ? they do lose their memory when the battery is unhooked for a couple of days.your owner's manual has the steps in it to reprogram it.

I disagree that they lose their programming when the battery in unhooked for a couple days. When I installed a transmission I had my battery unhooked for 2 weeks and the programming was not lost. In fact the radio station presets were still in the radio.

I once put in a used cluster in my Montana and I got the same results that you described here, I then put the old cluster back in and everything worked fine. I talked to the dealer and they told me that the cluster has to be programmed. Give your dealer a call to verify, or you could try putting the old cluster back in just to verify that the original would clear out the problem.

Thanks for the replys.

Where I am at now. The better half took it to the local dealer and they got the radio going no charge.

Now the air bag lamp is still light. Onward and upward.
