front end sway

My 99 Blazer seems to be all over the road. i replaced the shocks about 3 yrs ago with autozone 'premium' shocks (all 4). less than a year ago i replaced the front sway bar bushings. it's got new ball joints and upper control arm bushings. at highway speed if you hit a bump it sways like a battleship. could the autozone shocks be gone already? any other suggestions?

Re: front end sway

How many degrees do you have to move the steering wheel in order to get the car to respond? Anything more then a couple and you likely have too much slop in steering. To quickly check the tie rod ends, jack the front end off the ground and then grasp one tire at 3 and 9 o'clock, and gently try to move it back and forth. If you have any movement at all I would start looking at tie rod ends, get someone else to move it back and forth while you look at the ends to see where the slop is.

Re: front end sway

I just bought a 2000 Jimmy 4x4 70K miles, and already replaced all ball joints and now found left front bearing is loose, leaking at the short drive shaft. Is this a bad vehicle to buy? I hit bumps and feel like I am bouncing all over. I can still sell it for what I paid and am thinking to get rid of it.
any thoughts???????????

Re: front end sway

I recently had the same issue. I had play in the steering wheel, pulled to driver side on braking hard and hitting bumps. I tried what all these guys are telling you. It could be one of those issues. Just don't forget to check the idler arm on the passenger side. I connects to the steering rod and connects to the car frame. This keeps the steering rod from moving up and down.

Put car up, and move tire at 3 and 9 o'clock and move back and forth. If tie rods move up and down, check idler arm for up and down movement. If so, you should replace.
