Re: need help with my 95 taurus

Even though you have no coolant leaking into the passenger compartment, the heater core could be leaking enough to smell when the heater is on.

Re: need help with my 95 taurus

The fresh air intake for the cabin is at the base of the windshield. You might just be smelling the coolant that inevitably leaked under the hood when you replaced the thermostat. You may want to hose out the engine compartment to wash away coolant residue and see if after a day or two the smell becomes less apparent. If not, you could have another leak under the hood. Were new hoses installed when the engine was installed last year?

Another option would be to use a cooling system pressure tester and pressurize the cooling system to verify that it holds pressure. If there's a small leak somewhere, the pressure will drop and you should be able to see the leak.
