im looking to buy a1997 4cyl automatic with about 127600 miles .
Is there any things i should look for .I mean does this mode
have special problems that crop up.
I know cv joints -timing belt - wheel bearings are standard problems. im mean fuel injection,electrial auto trans. thanks Bill

Properly inspect all areas of the A-frame.

Run a compression test before you buy, burned valves are very common on Geo's. Be sure the headlights work when full on, and not just the daytime running lamps on. Be aware that with an automatic trans, you're only going to get in the 35-38 MPG range and not the high 40's of a manual.

I like the newer Metro designs however I agree with an automatic loose almost all of your fuel economy advantage. I have a 94 Geo Metropolitano XFI 3 cyl 5 speed with after market SC Frigettte AC once you experience 58 mpg, 55 mpg w AC on its hard to look at any other car seriously. I dont know anything about the new models like that but if I were looking for another it would be with a 1L with 5 speed especially with gas likely in the $5-$6 a gallon range over the next few years. Also as you drive you can starve out more Saudis than any other piece of military hardware ever could.

Like the other guys stated above.

Check the frame on the front part of the car behind the tire. Look for subframe rot.
If the engine runs good now, then go for it! If you have problems later, we can help. I also prefer the 5speed manual, but you will still get better MPG than most cars on your street.

Thanks for all the input.I did buy the 97. The motor runs smooth and shifts very smooth.It has had some bumps and bruses but all an all not to bad for $800.
I have read many pages back on this site and i sure have to say this is one of the best forums i have seen.So ya all will get some questions from the Ogoat as i get into this car more.
