Steering and brake noises

Ok when tuning the wheel while i'm stopped or moving very slow (when the most resistance is put on the steering) it makes a loud springy thunk sound as i turn it. It dosent really do it when i'm making turns at 15-20 mph only when slow or stopped. Another is the driver side break caliper is making an extremely loud creaking noise whenever i push the pedal past half. Are these big problems or is there a reasonably priced remedy?

Re: Steering and brake noises

So what year Malibu is it?
1. I had the same thunking noise on my '99; the front left coil spring was broken. Have someone turn the steering wheel while you take a look at the coils (but don't put your head in the wheel well). If one is broke, replace both sides.
2. My ABS brakes creaked as well. My shop recommended I do some work to prevent the possibility of binding, or something like that. I did it, but soon afterwards the creak started again. In my case, I don't believe it is serious, just a bit of an annoyance.

Re: Steering and brake noises

yeah its a 99 malibu. I was really hoping it wasent a coil. Too damn expensive to fix. i will have to deal with it. As for the brakes its extremely loud and embarrasing. I'm thinking of putting lithium grease around the piston of the caliper.
