CV half shafts

I need to replace my half shafts on both side of the front end. The question I have is it better to order a set of half shafts from a place like zz performance or should I just go to napa or autozone? Is ther a difference in quality or does it really matter. I have seen some places on the net that sell them for over $400. I am asumming that these are for race applications which I do not need. This is a 2000 GTP that I use as a daily driver. Any help is apprciated.

Re: CV half shafts

I use the rebuilds from the major auto parts stores. Haven't had one fail me yet. SHOP AROUND!!! Look for the best warrantee. Alot of stores give 30 days, some a year and a few who give a limited lifetime warranty. Even if you have one go bad, it makes you feel better to get a free replacement. MOST HIGH PERFORMANCE ONES HAVE "NO" WARRANTEE!!! THAT IS BECAUSE THEY THINK YOU ARE GOING TO ABUSE THEM ON PURPOSE.

Rebuilds run $ 75 to 100. Sometime you can find new ones around $ 150 to 175.

Re: CV half shafts

IMO you are better off going with either the Stage 1 or 2 axle shafts from ZZP which do have a one year warranty and thoroughly tested. Also, they can be used for competition especially the Stage 2. Plus the Stage 1 which is all you need, do not have a core charge and the price is reasonable for $85.00. The known problems we encounter with certain rebuilds and the Autozone variety is poor CV boot material and sealing so the grease leaks out, poor quality CV joints and the Made in China half shafts have been known to snap in half even with mo mods and a stock L67 engine due to the torque the engine produces.

Also with the regular auto parts stores, make sure you emphasize you have a GTP VIN "1" since the passenger side axle half shaft is heavy duty (HD) and different compared to the normally aspirated L36 VIN "K". You don't want to find out that the parts stores gave you the wrong axle shaft and it doesn't fit or fails prematurely.
